Well it definately feels like autumn! We now have a great selection of autumn and winter flowering Pansies and Violas available in both single colours and mixed. Wallflower plants are now ready and this year we have a number of single coloured packs as well as the usual mixtures. There are also packs of Forget-me-nots, Sweet Williams and Bellis ready. Primroses and Polyanthus are starting to become ready with many more to come over the next few weeks. Don’ forget the Cyclamen which are particularly good in a sheltered spot and ideal for Baskets and Containers.

Lots of Violas and Pansies
We are making up customer orders for colourful summer baskets, pots and wall planters. This year we have an even greater selection of basket plants to chose from in almost any colour combination you can think of.

Award winning Baskets supplied by Cove Garden Nursery
We can advise on planting for a particular aspect for example full sun or shade. We can make the baskets up and look after them for a few weeks until they have rooted in & the danger of frosts have past by the end of May. Then you can hang them up and (providing you care for them well) impress everyone with your beautiful colourful displays.

Fantastic Baskets cared for by Seddons of Dulverton
If you prefer to make up your own baskets them our wide selection of Tub & Basket plants are available now!
We have Trays of 15 colourful Primroses & Polyanthus at just £7 /tray. Should bring a bit of instant cheer to gardens this spring, great if you have visitors coming over Easter or just to please yourself.

Friolina trailing Violas have been the stars of Winter Hanging Baskets. Hardy Garden ‘Mums’ giving bold colours well into the autumn (and should return to flower again next year). Aida dwarf Wallflowers that not only flower in Spring as with other Wallflowers but have an early flush of colour in Autumn! Summer hanging baskets have had a difficult time this year due to the bad weather. Petunias especially have required constant dead heading. The high rainfall has leached out nutrients more quickly than usual, requiring the addition of extra feed. Why bother with all this effort you might ask? Well, we received photos from Seddons of Dulverton yestarday that I think prove this effort all to be worth while. These two baskets were, of course, planted up by us here at Cove and collected at the end of May (note the Red, White & Blue theme). I think you’ll agree they look superb & we can all (as gardeners) take heart that despite the adverse weather it is possible to produce fabulous results!

Superb Hanging Baskets!

10cm pot Primroses in our Greenhouse
If you need a touch of colour in all this winter gloom then colourful Primroses should brighten up your day. Great for either a sheltered spot in the garden (once hardened off ) or a display on your windowsill, these brilliant plants give us a hint that spring is just around the corner! Fantastic range of colours & a soft fragrance. Look out for our extra special offer coupon in this weeks Tiverton Gazette.
Summer is really here, we are watering twice daily to make our thirsty plants look nice and healthy for you, potting up in temperatures of 32 degrees in the polytunnel and generally getting a nice healthy Devon tan, make the most of it I say! The baskets we did for the lovely folks of Bampton and Dulverton have gone out and are looking good out so we are feeling very proud of them and I will be posting photos of them as soon as I can get out there to do so.

If you are still after basket plants we have some left on offer of 10 for £10 and we have made some ready to go as well as some pots for instant easy colour. If like me you are disillusioned by the efforts of our nations football team or just can’t be bothered with the World Cup come on in and chose some plants for the summer garden instead of shouting at the TV! If you are looking forward to Wimbledon and enjoy a glass of Pimms while watching we have concocted our special Pimms hanging basket which has strawberries, cucumber and mint, all the ingredients you need for a perfect Pimms wit out the alcohol!
Finally if you are making the most of the dry weather and are getting out the barbeque we are stocking Bulworthy Project Charcoal from Rackinford, its local handmade charcoal and it will be the best barbeque you ever had. The last barbeque we did was when we had friends staying over, while chatting to one of the young sons he suddenly said ‘sheep’ I explained how there were sheep in the fields next to us, turned around to where he was looking to find these three strays munching at our plants! So we had much fun trying to herd them out of our garden but it would have been nice to keep them if they ate the weeds!

Anyone following Springwatch on the beeb would have seen all sorts of antics from the birds and the bees on their telly. Well can tell you we have our own set of swallows nesting in the barn and was really excited to see a ‘banded demoselle’ dancing around my workshop window today (didn’t know what it was till we saw it on springwatch!) absolutely beautiful with irredescent blue wings, lovely to see. We’ve had the ducklings who have been and gone (probably RIP) but our very secretive moorhens have had chicks and we saw a lovely fluffy black chick last week, they have gone into cover within the iris and bull rush that has taken over the pond so they may have a good chance. Every now and then hear a ‘cheep’ so they must be there still..
On the plant front…bedding season is really with us..and after a really busy Bank Holiday we haven’t much left; but we do have some beautiful fuchsias, million bells, surfinas and more to make your baskets and tubs look fantastic. We have on offer 10 for £10 s0 thats about right 5 plants for 2 baskets! Have planted some ready made to go also (took me ages to decide what to go in) so if you can’t be bothered you can pick up some baskets all done and ready!
And finally still having problems uploading pics so can’t illustrate this blog but as soon as we get it sorted will have loads for you!
