Down Farm Produce

This Sunday (11th May)  Down Farm Produce from Stoodleigh will be at the Nursery from 10am until 12 noon, they’ll have organic bread, pasties, cakes and of course scotch eggs! So come down and look at all the beautiful plants available in the nursery and then buy something for your tea from them !

Arts & Crafts Fair Easter Sunday 2014

Preparations are on the way for our Easter Arts & Crafts Market to be held here at Cove Garden Nursery on 20th April Easter Sunday from 1oam to 4pm. Pottery, Glass, Jewelery, Handmade Dog Treats, Woodworking, Ironmongery, Candles, Prints & Cards are among the stalls already signed up as well as food on the day from Pitmans Farm Hog Roast and refreshments from Cosmic Wheels mobile catering van. All this on top of our usual selection of plants and garden sundries and our very own resident Glass Artist Helen Fonnereau, this is sure to be another great event.

Seed Potatoes

We now have in stock our selection of Seed Potatoes. Selected to offer some of the best early, second early and main crop varieties for growing conditions in the south-west. Flavour, yield and resistance to pests & diseases are important factors to us when determining which varieties to stock.

Accord: A high yeilding early with good disease reistance

Foremost: A firm favourite with great flavour and some slug resistance.

Home Guard: Back by popular demand this very early variety makes super new potatoes.

Lady Christl: Tasty and high yielding garden favourite.

Pentland Javlin: Versitile and good on most soils, good for boiling and salads.

Premiere: Very early popular variety with a repulation for blight resistance.

Swift: Very early and best for containers and growing under cover.

Ulster Sceptre: Great tasting early for salads and new.

Winston: Bulks up early making great early jacket potatoes.

Charlotte: The most popular second early with superb tasty potatoes.

Kestrel: Slug resistant and high yielding, good all-rounder.

Maris Peer: Good for boiling and salads. Slug resistant.

Wilja: High yielding second early with some slug and disease resistance.

Cara: Excellent main crop ideal for bakers with good resistance to pests and diseases.

Picasso: High yielding and disease resistant main crop.

Pink Fir Apple: Distinctive in shape and flavour. Finger shaped tubers have a nutty flavour.

Record: New to us this year reported to have excellent disease and slug resistance, good all-rounder.

Romano: A red skinned variety with better blight and slug resistance than Desiree.

Setanta: Another red potato with excellent blight resistance. Good floury taste.

Valor: High yielding and reliable variety with good disease resitance, producing good clean tubers.

Vivaldi: This Albert Bartlett variety performed performed well in our own trial last summer and had a superb flavour.

Isle of Jura: A multi-purpose disease resistant and tasty main crop variety from Albert Bartlett.

Apache: A bright red skinned variety with cream eyes gives this variet a striking appearance. Buttery chestnut flavour makes for exellent roast potatoes.

International Kidney: Better known as ‘Jesrsey Royal’ when grown in Jersey a well known tasty variety.

Mayan Gold: Exceptionally flavoured new variety, best for chips, mash and roasting.

PLANT SALE NOW ON

A selection of our Trees, Shrubs & Roses as well as a few other bits and bobs are now on sale for the remainder of January (or until they all sell!) Offers include selected 2/3 year old Fruit trees for just £15 each or 2 for £25. Ornametal trees we have selected some trees now at £17 each or 2 for £30 and some of these trees stand more than 8ft tall, we’re not talking whips here they will give instant effect. Roses on offer include numerous varieties of Floribunda & Hybrid Tea Roses at 3 for £10, selected Shrub Roses Now 3 for £15 & several varieties of David Austin English Shrub Roses at 3 for just £20.  There are also lots of shrubs on offer including a selection of 2/3 Litre potted shrubs at just £4 each or 3 for £10.  If you’ve got a gardening project or need to replace a few things in your garden then there is no better time to do it and save money while you can.

CHRISTMAS & NEW YEARS OPENING TIMES

Still Some Devon Christmas Trees Remaining

We still have some lovely Nordman Fir Non-Neddle drop Christmas Trees, a few Norway Spruce and a few Frazer Fir left to sell. All our Christmas Trees are grown in Devon to ensure quality & freshness. Sizes available now vary from 5ft up to 9ft tall so it’s not too late to get one of our high quality trees. We can deliver locally and deliveries to Bampton & most parts of Tiverton are Free! Christmas doesn’t start officially until the Tree is up and decorated so come in soon and let the festive season begin.

Festive Craft Market

Cove Garden Nursery Festive Fair is on Sun 8th December 10 till 4.  Some great stalls including textiles, candles, soaps, wood-turning, ceramics amongst others.  Pitmans Farm will be providing delicious hog roast once again and mobile cafe Cosmic Wheels will be supplying warm soups and mulled wine.  It’s the perfect time to purchase some unique presents and pick out your Devon fresh Christmas Tree.

Devon Grown Christmas Trees

The festive season has begun for us here at Cove with the arrival of the first deliveries of localy grown Christmas Trees. This year the qulity looks as good as ever with a even greater number of Nordman non-drop trees after such high demand last season. We still recommend getting in early so you can have the wides choice and we are happy to look after the tree for you until you are ready for it. Local delivery is available and is free to Bampton and many parts of Tiverton. Let the festive season begin!

Roses

Full Rose Availability We now have our full list of 178 varieties of Roses available now! Planting them in Autumn especially with Rootgrow Mycorrhizal will mean that you will have fantastic roses next summer.  Much of the new stock is currently bare rooted, so there is a cost saving if your quick and get your roses before we get around to potting them up. Check out the list there is plenty to tempt. Lots of Scented varieties, rampant ramblers, minature & patio roses, classic & old fashioned varieties and of course a wide selection of Hybrid Tea & Floribunda bush roses. Patio Clematis

Stunning Patio Clematis from the Raymond Evison Collection. These include C. ‘Rebecca’ with large, rich velvet red flowers that come & come again throughout the summer. C. ‘Ooh La La’ has pink striped flowers that really stand out. Normally this collection in 3 Litre deep pots and trained onto bamboo ‘ladders’ retail at £14.95 but we have them on special at the moment for just £11.99 each or 2 plants for £20! They will look superb on in patio containers or grown up fences & trellis. Sure to impress the neighbours.
