Another successful Easter Sunday Craft Market here at Cove Garden Nursery is over and the dry  Bank Holiday Weekend has ended in typical fashion with a day of rain!  We’d like to thank the stall holders for making it a most pleasant day out for our customers and we look forward to doing it again next year bigger and better!

Easter Sunday Craft Fair

By Helen, 04/04/2012 6:59 pm

It’s the Easter Sunday Arts and Craft Market at Cove Garden Nursery this Easter Weekend and although we won’t be enjoying a heatwave like recent days we won’t actually be knee deep in snow like some parts of the country!  Forecast is fair but cooler and it won’t stop us from putting up our gazebos for our annual Easter Sunday Craft Market!  We have a good selection of quality crafts such as: ceramics, jewellery, textiles, wood workers, photography, cupcakes, glass and a blacksmith complete with mobile forge to name a few!  Its a great day out for all the family in the beautiful Exe valley and you can even get a cream tea or cake on the lawn!

Wicked Willows Exhibition

By Helen, 17/03/2012 9:07 am

Joolz and Woody of Wicked Willow have been very busy the last few months making sculptures for a year long exhibition at National Trust Knightshayes.  This is going to be an amazing opportunity for them and a really special setting to appreciate their work.  Whilst you’ll have to go and see what amazing creations they have come up with here is a taster with Joolz’ rather splendid ‘Cheval’.  The exhibition begins at the beginning of April but check with Knightshayes for opening times.

Pulmonaria ‘Raspberry Splash’ (Lungwort)

By Paul, 08/03/2012 8:48 am

PLANT OF THE MONTH – MARCH

Welcome to our new feature, we will endeavour to post a new plant from our range each month.

Pulmonaria 'Raspberry Splash'

Pulmonarias are a group of popular shade loving, woodland perennials. Leaves are hairy and often marked with silvery markings that sometimes join together to make silvery windows.  The variety ‘Raspberry Splash’ has rosy pink flowers on upright stems holding the flowers well above the attractively spotted, semi-evergreen foliage. Flowering can start as early as February and can last well into late spring.  They grow happily on most soils but dislike waterlogged. They will do best with plenty of humus in the soil so mulching annually with leaf mould or garden compost will help keep them healthy.  Adequate moisture in summer helps to prevent powdery mildew later in the season.  Aphids and slugs can sometimes affect plants but are rarely a major problem. Pulmonarias are very hardy and easily coped with the recent harsh winters.  An essential ground cover plant for difficult shady areas.

Colours of Spring

By Paul, 28/02/2012 11:41 am

At last we are getting some warmer weather and although it is far too early to say we are free of the winter entirely at least we can make a start.

There is plenty of colour coming on now with a few sunny days we have seen many of the spring bulbs burst open providing a reward for the busy bees and other pollinators looking to feast after the colder days earlier in February. With more warm weather forecast this is the time to do the all important preparation so as to make the most of those garden plots this Spring and Summer.
