All Fired Up! Exhibition of Glass at Redearth Gallery 26 Oct – 4 Nov 2012

By Helen, 17/10/2012 8:49 pm

All Fired Up is an exhibition of kiln-formed glass by nine Devon Artists at Redearth Gallery, Bickleigh Mill, Tiverton  26 Oct  to 4 Nov.  (redearth-art.com)    The group came together as a result of attending kiln-formed workshops by Anne Smyth at her Devon Studio (www.annesmyth.com) and despite working in the same medium the end results are all very different in their creativity.  This is the first time that they have exhibited together so the work reflects the different personalities in the group and the versatility of the medium!

By Paul, 06/10/2012 7:31 pm

For those keen on growing something to fill the space in the Vegetable garden this Autumn we have Japanese Onion variety Senshyu yellow in stock (sold loose so you can pick out the best & you don’t have to buy more than you need). This is a reliable variety that will be ready to harvest a few weeks a head of most spring planted varieties. For the garlic enthusiast we have 2 varieties perfect for the UK climate. These are ‘Lautrec Wight’ a hardnecked variety with smooth flavour & Iberian Wight a softneck variety with full flavour. Shallots are growing in popularity and the “Banana” variety ‘Jermor is particularly good with excellent flavour and good yields when planted in Autumn.

Autumn Colour Inspirations

By Paul, 14/09/2012 10:05 am

Autumn is upon us but do not despair as their is plenty of hardy colour to be found to brighten up those crisp Autumn days. Favourites include a wide range of colourful Pansies & Violas. Friolina trailing Violas have been the stars of Winter Hanging Baskets. Hardy Garden ‘Mums’ giving bold colours well into the autumn (and should return to flower again next year). Aida dwarf Wallflowers that not only flower in Spring as with other Wallflowers but have an early flush of colour in Autumn! All of these can be combined with Spring flowering Bulbs to provide brightness in the long Winter months.

Hanging Basket Success!

By Paul, 10/09/2012 10:51 pm

Summer hanging baskets have had a difficult time this year due to the bad weather. Petunias especially have required constant dead heading. The high rainfall has leached out nutrients more quickly than usual, requiring the addition of extra feed. Why bother with all this effort you might ask? Well, we received photos from Seddons of Dulverton yestarday that I think prove this effort all to be worth while. These two baskets were, of course, planted up by us here at Cove and collected at the end of May (note the Red, White & Blue  theme).  I think you’ll agree they look superb & we can all (as gardeners) take heart that despite the adverse weather it is possible to produce fabulous results!

By Helen, 27/07/2012 2:39 pm

Its that time of the year again, the Mid Devon show is upon us!  Here is a sneak preview of our stand, the  theme this year is ‘Seed to Feed’, it’s always a challenge to come up with new ideas and beautiful plants but think it looks OK, in fact the whole marquee is looking very colourful with the Tiverton Flower Club floral arrangements and the display put on by Tiverton Garden Club.  There is plenty to do at the show, a packed craft marquee and of course all the usual fur and feather and rural skills.  So come in and see us!

New pots now in!

By Helen, 22/07/2012 5:50 pm

We have just received a new delivery of pots from the lovely folk of Pot Porrium!  Very reasonably priced and we are the only nursery in Devon who stock them, so you are sure to find something different.   They are also very frost proof as they are fired higher than most other pots. I particularly like these glazed pots below, beautiful colours with a metallic sheen to them,  they will certainly stand out!
