Springtime at Cove!

We are currently having difficult uploading photos onto here at the moment so you will have to use your imagination while I describe whats been going on at Cove Garden Nursery recently….!

The warmer weather has really got the plants (and weeds) growing and we are fairly optimistic that we have almost seen the end of the frosts!  We would still advise caution with the tender plants and maybe have some fleece handy just in case!

In preparation for the summer we have been potting up a whole selection of basket and patio plants in readiness for your hanging baskets.  We have all the traditional favourites; fuchsias, geraniums and busy lizzies to mention a few,  our greenhouse is beginning to look very colourful after the endless winter!  We can also make up baskets to order and look after for them for you tell they are ready to go out, particularly handy if you are going on holiday.  If you prefer to create your own we have a selection of baskets, troughs and also have some rather nice  oak whiskey barrels (without the whiskey!).

If like others you have found that not only has the frost killed off your plants but the rabbits and deer have had a go at them too we have just received a product called ‘Grazers’.  This product is sprayed onto your plants and is proven effective against damage from the bunnies!  It is completely harmless to pets and has been used successfully used by farmers and growers.  We will be trying it on our own garden soon but if you would like more information have a look on www.grazers.co.uk .

We knew Spring had arrived when after weeks of finding abandoned eggs in random places we were rewarded one morning with our first batch of ducklings!  They are such a joy to watch and can be a bit elusive but if you come to see us you may spot them.  We have also been very lucky to have the Greater Spotted Woodpecker visiting our feeder regularly and we will be posting photos as soon as possible.

Finally the Tea Tent has been open weekends for cream tea and cakes and as the weather is warming up for the weekend we also have a small selection of ice creams from Langage Farm to tempt you!   (www.langagefarm.com) Yum!
