Dragon Stolen from Cove Garden Nursery

By Helen, 27/09/2011 10:42 am

Have You Seen this Dragon?

We are very upset to make the discovery that Wicked Willows dragon has been stolen some time last night.  Anyone who drives past regularly will be familiar with George and the Dragon and they have become a local landmark.  The dragon is at least 7ft long with a 6ft wing span so who ever stole it must have had a large vehicle to put him in.  If anyone noticed anything suspicious or have seen him please let us know as we want him back.  George will miss her!

Onion Sets Now In!

By Helen, 10/09/2011 8:36 pm

We know are onions here and we have these sets to plant now and ready to harvest in June!

Also just a reminder that we have our winter bedding in,  and are also making up winter hanging baskets to order now.  Hanging baskets aren’t just for summer and we can fill them with pansies, violas and pretty little trailing violas that will cheer you through winter and survive the frosts!

Devon Open Studios

By Helen, 03/09/2011 9:58 am

Devon Open Studios runs for two weeks in September and is where you get to have a nose around artist studios and workshops all over the county!  There are hundreds of artists opening their doors and it really is worth having a look at all the creative talent out there.   We are always open here but please do come and have a look at the new work I have been making.  For details of artists exhibiting in your area check out

Other news:  we now have spring flowering bulbs for planting up now.  Also as the summer blooms start to fade we now have autumn/winter bedding packs of cheery pansies and violas amongst others to brighten up a gloomy day!

Best in Show!

By Helen, 04/08/2011 10:28 am

We are thrilled to have been a part of the winning team again as not only did the Flower and Garden Marquee win Best Special Features (all due to the lovely ladies from the flower arranging clubs) but the Marquee won  Best in Show!  This down to the skill and creativity of all the clubs and businesses in interpreting the ‘Dig for Victory’ theme.  Special mentions to the Tiverton Gardening Club, The Mayflower in Tiverton and of course the Tiverton Flower Club (amongst  all the others who made the marquee look and smell heavenly!).  It was a particularly special ‘victory’ as Mary Tucker of the Flower Club who has been co-ordinating the marquee for years is stepping down as chief organiser.  We are really pleased that all her hard work has been rewarded, it won’t be the same without her!

Mid Devon Show 23rd July!

By Helen, 16/07/2011 1:19 pm

Well midsummer has been and gone and the rush for bedding and basket plants has slowed down.  We still have some hanging baskets left so if you haven’t done them yet come and see us, they are looking beautiful!

We are also getting ready for the Mid Devon show next weekend which we are hoping will be as successful as last year.  Its a real chance for us to get creative with the plants and do something different!  We will be in the Flower and Garden Marquee again so come and see us!  Joolz of Wicked Willows will be there too and she has created something spectacular!  I have posted last years display below.

Other news:   at some point this summer we might be able to barbeque so let me remind you that we stock the amazing Bulworthy Project charcoal which is made locally,  its the best charcoal ever, no chemicals and burns really well.  Also if you are noticing bare patches on your lawn but don’t want to buy a whole box of grass seed we now sell loose practical lawn seed from Kings seeds, so if you just want a handful come and see us!  One last thing!  We now have our own Facebook page so search for Cove Garden Nursery and come and like us!

Hanging Baskets

We have just had the longest day, Wimbledon has started and Glastonbury Festival starts this weekend, so that means only one thing…RAIN!   Of course we do need it after a very dry spring and it means less outdoor watering for us and it also gives me an excuse to get into my workshop and make some bits and bobs out of glass!   I have made some larger outdoor bunting which is hanging on our Tea Tent (open on fine days!) and would look lovely draped among trees or on a pagoda, perfect for adding a festive touch to a summer Bar-B-Q!  Come and see us or give me a ring if you would like something a bit different for your garden.

I have also been making some etched name hangers so if you are stuck for any gift ideas, get in touch with me for that too, they are ideal for a christening or birthday gift!

If you haven’t yet done your hanging baskets and patio planters we now have 25% off summer bedding, so that means 10 9cm plants including fuschias for £7.50!  Its not too late to do them and for that price you can go mad and create a riot of colours to cheer you on a rainy day!
