All week we will be open from 8.30 in the morning until 7pm in the evening. Off-peak road closure ends on Saturday 9th April and we will then revert to our normal summer opening hours (9am-6pm).

Seed Potatoes

By Paul, 13/01/2016 1:36 pm

We now have our Seed Potatoes in stock now ready for chitting. All varieties are offered loose for sale so that you can select as many or as few as you like, no need to buy 2Kg of all the same variety!! You could choose a selection of varieties and have the best potaoes for each occasion. Seelct from the range of Earlies, Second Earlies, Maincrop and Salad varieties. Growing potaoes is easy and one of the most rewarding vegetables to grow. Great for teaching kids where there food comes from and such a versatile vegetable it is too! If space is limited they can easily be grown in potato growing bags or even just a bucket (remember to make holes first).

We have a great selection of varieties including: Accord, Premier, Foremost, Lady Christl, Rocket, Winston, Charlotte, Kestrel, Saxon, Maris Peer, Wilja, Cara, Picasso, International Kidney (Jersy Royal), Pink Fir Apple and Setanta. These are all varieties that do well in the South West and performed really well in our own bucket tests over the last 2 years.

To chit your seed potatoes put them in trays with the ‘eyes’ facing up and leave them in a cool & frost free, light place but out of full sun. Old egg boxes work really well. The seed tubers will over the next few weeks produce short shoot which give them a growing headstart once planted out. Chitting is not essential but does help to get things going. Planting can commence as early as mid-March but frost protection may be required especially in colder areas and frost pockets. To be safe start planting from mid-April onwards, always keeping an eye out for late spring frosts.

Christmas Trees 2014

By Paul, 02/12/2014 9:19 am

Christmas trees now available!

Does’t time fly. Christmas is appon us once again and as per usual we have our selected Devon Grown Christmas Trees. There are lots to choose from in sizes from 4 ft up to 12ft. Traditional Norway Spruce, non-neddle-drop Nordman, and non-needle-drop Frasier fir offer something to suit all tastes.  If you need a new stand to support your tree we have some sturdy ones that hold the tree and a little water reservoir to help keep the tree fresh.  Trees can be netted for your convenience and we can even arrange local delivery if required. Call in and select your tree and if you are not ready to take it home yet then we can look after it until nearer to christmas.  We also have some potted trees, mostly Norway Spruce, which if looked after properly ove the festive period could be planted out in the garden.
