Festive Suncatchers

If you always fancied learning how to copper foil I am available for 1 to 1 tuition,  you could book a session for a loved one as a Christmas present!  Just give us a ring for details.

Festive wreath

We have  festive wreaths for sale, this one is an alternative to the traditional but we also have natural holly wreaths available.

For our cat loving customers meet a new addition to the team.   This is Tom one half of two kittens we got from the Blue Cross, Jerry (naturally)  is the other brother but is very difficult to photograph, hopefully he will stand still for me long enough to get a decent photo soon!

The Emperor Returns to the Exe Valley!

By Helen, 10/11/2010 7:35 pm

Some people may be aware of  ‘The Emperor’  the beautiful Exmoor Red Stag and the largest land mammal in the U.K  who may or may not still be alive. It is certainly a story that has captured a lot of debate…   Well  the Emperor is alive and returned to the Exe Valley  in this beautiful willow sculpture created by Woody Fox.   Woody is part of Wicked Willows here at Cove Garden Nursery and they can create anything from this beautiful stag for a large space, a smaller willow sculpture for your back garden or living willow and shelters for anywhere!   They will be running a special Festive Workshop for children on December the 11th making lanterns to beat the Winter gloom!  There are 2 sessions lasting 2 hours and its £10 per child including materials.  If you would like to know more give us a ring for details Joolz 07969554052 or  01398 331946

Snowdrop in Summer!

By Helen, 15/08/2010 11:13 am

Well I’d like to say we are enjoying lovely long August  days dipping our toes into the water and drinking Pina Coladas but this being Devon and the school holidays, summer is doing what it normally does and its either raining or really windy here!  But we are not discouraged its still beautiful in Cove whatever the weather!  I hate to mention autumn but the leaves are definitely starting to change colour here,  so with that in mind if you are thinking of the new term ahead and are wondering whether to join a class at night school or learn a new skill I will be offering 1 to 1 tuition in copper foiling this autumn.  If you’ve fancied having a go I will show you how to cut glass and then assemble a panel or large sun catcher to take home with you.  Get in touch for a chat or email for details.

Talking of copper foiling I recently made a snowdrop for a shepherds hut.  The very nice people I made it for have sent me the images of it fitted in and it looks fantastic.  They are a company called ‘Dods of London’ and they will have a stand at the National Gardening Show at the Bath and West Showground in September if you want to have a look at it.   They restore shepherds huts and gypsy caravans to a very high standard and I want one!   Will link onto their site when its up and running but here is what they look like below!

Easter Weekend!

By Helen, 01/04/2010 3:25 pm

Well we have been preparing for this Easter Weekend by putting up a tea tent on the lawn.   We have ordered in scones and cakes, Westons clotted cream and a beautiful sunny weekend.  Unfortunately we will probably only be able to deliver on some  of those orders as the forcast is set to be wet and windy!  I am sure that there will be some blue skys between the showers but a Devon Cream Tea can be savoured whatever the weather and there is room in the tent to shelter!  We will be open 10 till 4 Easter Sunday.

Ever wondered what happened to all those missing socks that you knew were a pair when they went in the washing machine but one always vanishes?   Well these little fellows appeared on our doorstep yesterday looking for a home!  These little ‘Sock Buddies’ have been rescued courtesy of ‘eckel and noo’ who are Torbay based crafters.  Each have there own little personalities and you can come along and adopt one of them from us and give them a loving home.

Devon Fairies and Gargoyles at Cove

By Helen, 23/03/2010 2:11 pm
Deep in thought!

Knock Knock!
Knock Knock!

Devon piskies and fairies, you don’t want to get on the wrong side of them so we now have ‘Fairy Doors’ from Nicky Chapman of  Goblin Dreams on sale.  Think of them like a cat flap but for fairies and easier to install!  Let the fairies in and you are sure to have good luck!

For those who want something a bit bigger for the garden we have a small selection of Devon made statues.  Big dogs, little cherubs and scary gargoyles, sure there is something for everyone.  I particularly like this big fella, he looks how we all feel sometimes!

Its currently raining but we have had a good run of fine weather which is bringing out the bulbs.  We are waiting for it all to explode into colour just in time for Easter.  We have lots planned for the long weekend, we will have a Tea Tent on the lawn serving simple Devon Cream Teas and our own savoury Cove version.  (Not a Hot Cross Bun in sight for those who have been eating them since New Year  when they went on sale in the shops!)  Wicked Willows will be here on Easter Saturday working on something wonderful (probably not an Easter bunnie!) and we will be open on Easter Sunday 10 till 4.   Will keep you updated!

Going potty again!

By Helen, 15/03/2010 9:56 am

We have just taken delivery of pots from Pot Porrium who travelled from East Anglia and made a wonderful display for us.  We are the only stockists in the South West so you are sure to find something different.

Pots

We are also adding to our plant stock on a weekly basis so now have climbers such as clematis and wisteria and favourites such as rhododendron and azaleas.  For those who are still waiting for the bulbs to come out we have daffs, crocus and primroses to name a few to add a bit of instant colour.

We now have our new road signs up so anyone who doesn’t know we are here has no excuse now!

Sign!

Finally, we are lucky to have on sale a selection of beautiful and original hand made tiles by Exmoor based ceramicist Jacqueline Leighton Boyce.  Our photos don’t do the work justice but they feature an iridescent glaze which sparkles in the sunlight!  Inspired by nature each is carefully observed and delicately executed.   If you are after a unique piece of art and reasonably priced then come and see us!

Spring around the corner?

By Helen, 06/03/2010 4:06 pm

primrosesWell the last few days have been Spring like here in Cove and we have all been feeling very positive!  Nothing like the sun to get you out into the garden, and discover what has survived the frost and beginning to shoot up.  If you need a bit of instant colour and can’t wait we have some lovely primroses in an array or colours!  We also have a selection of iris and crocus as seen in the photos below.

We are also now selling lovely ceramic hearts made by Devon artist Nicky Harland who presses  fresh flowers into the clay to make a print.  Very pretty and ideal for Mothers Day!

I have recently finished a private commission with the brief of  ’do whatever you like’ so I designed this simple piece inspired by the rolling hills of Devon I can see from my window which I had been thinking of recreating in glass for a while.  I actually used all lead instead of copper foil this time seeing as it is quite big, something I haven’t done for a while. If anyone would like something similar get in touch!!

Devon Hills

And finally if anyone has been wondering about Jack Cat here he is fully exploring his territory at last now he is able to go outside.  He is proving to be a very useful member of staff as he has already caught 3 mice (possibly blind!).

Well its another snow day here in Devon so its time to sit in the warm and update the blog!  Have finally made a kingfisher, its really hard to recreate the amazing flash of blue but I think its worked quite well.  He is hanging in the shop window ready for someone to take him home and enjoy!

More Valentines Gifts!

By Helen, 07/02/2010 5:06 pm
Blue Heart

Blue Heart

Valentines Day is only a week away so here are some new stained glass hearts for your loved one!  So this year instead of the usual roses and chocolates why not treat them to something that will last for ever!  (Maybe you should still buy the chocolates and perhaps some bubbly just in case?!)  We also have some handmade cards by Sunrise Cards to go with our expanding range of crafts.  These gifts would work equally well for Mothers Day which is 14th March.   Why don’t you suprise the important people in your lives with something unique instead of leaving it to the last minute and popping down the 24 hour garage!!
