While the weather has turned cooler a quick walk around the nursery reveals some winter gems. Prunus x subhirtella ‘Autumnalis Rosea’ is a mass of swollen buds beginning to burst into delicate soft white flowers with a pink tinge.

Prunus 'Autumnalis Rosea'
The sweet fragrance of Sarcococca (Christmas box) hangs in the chilly air. The rosey buds of Skimmia ‘Rubella’ are just about to open into clusters of scented white stars while the spidery florets of Hamamelis ‘Diane’ offers its soapy aroma. The jewel in the crown quite literally must be a variety of Hellebore which we are growing for the first time called Helleborus ‘Winter Jewels Cherry Blossom’. The majority of this carefully bred variety offer wonderfully large saucer shaped flowers of two tone rose & white Anemone centred flowers. A delightful double specimen was spotted with the same colours but fully double exotic looking flowers.

A stunning selection of H. 'Winter Jewels Cherry Blossom'
You can’t help but want to be in the garden in winter when surrounded by all these beautiful gems.
