Have just been up onto Exmoor to the workshop of Dods of London to see my stained glass windows fitted into their wonderful shepherds huts. These bespoke huts are top quality hand crafted and tailored to your requirements. They make a great guest room or studio and can even come with little wood burners to keep you cosy and I want one! All Fired Up is an exhibition of kiln-formed glass by nine Devon Artists at Redearth Gallery, Bickleigh Mill, Tiverton 26 Oct to 4 Nov. (redearth-art.com) The group came together as a result of attending kiln-formed workshops by Anne Smyth at her Devon Studio (www.annesmyth.com) and despite working in the same medium the end results are all very different in their creativity. This is the first time that they have exhibited together so the work reflects the different personalities in the group and the versatility of the medium!
Who thinks their mum is a star? Why not show her by giving her a handmade glass star for Mothers Day? It can be made to any colour scheme you require just get in touch and we could come to some arrangement. We also have bunting or these cute little keyrings amongst other craft ideas. Of course you could treat her to some plants but if you are really stuck for ideas we do supply the National Garden Scheme gift vouchers!
Devon Open Studios runs for two weeks in September and is where you get to have a nose around artist studios and workshops all over the county! There are hundreds of artists opening their doors and it really is worth having a look at all the creative talent out there. We are always open here but please do come and have a look at the new work I have been making. For details of artists exhibiting in your area check out www.devonartistnetwork.co.uk
Other news: we now have spring flowering bulbs for planting up now. Also as the summer blooms start to fade we now have autumn/winter bedding packs of cheery pansies and violas amongst others to brighten up a gloomy day!
We have just had the longest day, Wimbledon has started and Glastonbury Festival starts this weekend, so that means only one thing…RAIN! Of course we do need it after a very dry spring and it means less outdoor watering for us and it also gives me an excuse to get into my workshop and make some bits and bobs out of glass! I have made some larger outdoor bunting which is hanging on our Tea Tent (open on fine days!) and would look lovely draped among trees or on a pagoda, perfect for adding a festive touch to a summer Bar-B-Q! Come and see us or give me a ring if you would like something a bit different for your garden.
I have also been making some etched name hangers so if you are stuck for any gift ideas, get in touch with me for that too, they are ideal for a christening or birthday gift!
If you haven’t yet done your hanging baskets and patio planters we now have 25% off summer bedding, so that means 10 9cm plants including fuschias for £7.50! Its not too late to do them and for that price you can go mad and create a riot of colours to cheer you on a rainy day!
This is some recently made glass bunting that would look pretty just about anywhere! I can make them any colour to match your decor and I think they would look really sweet in a little girls bedroom with some fairy lights! I have added some beads to give them extra sparkle. These retail at £20 and they can be made to any length.
Valentines Day is looming and although you shouldn’t need an excuse to treat your loved one we have some gifts and cards for that special day . Choose from our beautifully crafted jewellery and glass or ceramic hearts.
If you prefer something more floral, we have these Valentines Kiss lilies bulbs or a selection of roses ready to be planted for a permanent reminder!
If you fancy something handmade for Christmas then we have a selection of glass tree decorations and suncatchers made by myself! We have also had a fresh delivery of trees today if you needed something to hang them on!
If you always fancied learning how to copper foil I am available for 1 to 1 tuition, you could book a session for a loved one as a Christmas present! Just give us a ring for details.
We have festive wreaths for sale, this one is an alternative to the traditional but we also have natural holly wreaths available.
For our cat loving customers meet a new addition to the team. This is Tom one half of two kittens we got from the Blue Cross, Jerry (naturally) is the other brother but is very difficult to photograph, hopefully he will stand still for me long enough to get a decent photo soon!
This is a new piece of copper foiled glass entitled ‘The Castle’. Its inspired by Mussorgskys ‘Pictures at an Exhibition’ after a call by the EMG Symphony Orchestra for Devon artists to create work inspired by a movement from it.
The EMG will be preforming Pictures at an Exhibition at Exeter Cathedral on 25th November at 7.30 where you can view this and other artworks. http://www.emgsymphonyorchestra.org/ for details..
