All Fired Up is an exhibition of kiln-formed glass by nine Devon Artists at Redearth Gallery, Bickleigh Mill, Tiverton 26 Oct to 4 Nov. (redearth-art.com) The group came together as a result of attending kiln-formed workshops by Anne Smyth at her Devon Studio (www.annesmyth.com) and despite working in the same medium the end results are all very different in their creativity. This is the first time that they have exhibited together so the work reflects the different personalities in the group and the versatility of the medium!

Devon Open Studios runs for two weeks in September and is where you get to have a nose around artist studios and workshops all over the county! There are hundreds of artists opening their doors and it really is worth having a look at all the creative talent out there. Other news: we now have spring flowering bulbs for planting up now. Also as the summer blooms start to fade we now have autumn/winter bedding packs of cheery pansies and violas amongst others to brighten up a gloomy day!
We have just had the longest day, Wimbledon has started and Glastonbury Festival starts this weekend, so that means only one thing…RAIN! Of course we do need it after a very dry spring and it means less outdoor watering for us and it also gives me an excuse to get into my workshop and make some bits and bobs out of glass! I have made some larger outdoor bunting which is hanging on our Tea Tent (open on fine days!) and would look lovely draped among trees or on a pagoda, perfect for adding a festive touch to a summer Bar-B-Q! For our cat loving customers meet a new addition to the team. This is Tom one half of two kittens we got from the Blue Cross, Jerry (naturally) is the other brother but is very difficult to photograph, hopefully he will stand still for me long enough to get a decent photo soon!

This is a new piece of copper foiled glass entitled ‘The Castle’. Its inspired by Mussorgskys ‘Pictures at an Exhibition’ after a call by the EMG Symphony Orchestra for Devon artists to create work inspired by a movement from it.
