Changes to Covid-19 Rules July 19th 2021

By Paul, 19/07/2021 2:40 pm

As from July 19th 2021 and considering the changes to legal covid-19 restrictions Cove Garden Nursery have decided to amend our conditions of entry:

  • We ask first that if you have ANY of the symptoms of Covid-19 that you still stay away from the nursery for 10 days. These include persistent cough, fever, headache, loss of taste & smell.
  • If you have received a positive Covid Test or have been in close contact with someone who has, then please stick to the rules and self-isolate and do not under any circumstances come to the Nursery.
  • Please continue to wash your hands or sanitise prior to entering and on leaving the Nursery site. There is a washroom at the carpark end of the Glasshouse.
  • Please use contactless payment where possible. Our till and card machines will continue to be sanitised at regular intervals throughout the day but contactless is best. We will begin taking cash payments, but Card Payments are preferred.
  • We continue to ask that social distancing measures continue. Please keep a minimum of 2 meters distance from other customers and staff.
  • While the legal requirement for face coverings has ended, we politely request that customers continue to use one when in covered areas such as the shop. Our staff will continue using face coverings in enclosed areas and in situations where social distancing is hard to maintain.
  • We continue to sanitise regularly touched zones such as door handles throughout the day, but please avoid touching where practical.

We will continue to monitor the latest advice from PHE and may adjust our conditions of entry as new advice becomes available.  Please watch our Facebook, Twitter and Web Blog for details.

You can always contact us on 01398 331946

or email enquiries@covegardennursery.co.uk

Thank you for your co-operation and hopefully we can all get through this.

Keep Calm and Prepare for Gardening!

Seed Potatoes & Onion Sets

By Paul, 08/01/2021 11:29 am

Our selection of seed potatotes has arrived with more varieties than ever before. All varieties have been selected because of their suitability to South-West growing conditions but also for their flavour and yeilds. The list inclused 7 earlies (Accord, Arran Pilot, Foremost, Home Guard, Orla, Premiere and Winston) 5 Second earlies (Charlotte, Kestrel, Maris Peer, Nicola and Wilja) and 5 Maincrop (Cara, Diseiree, Picasso, Pink Fir Apple and Setanta).  All vaireties are sold loose so that you only need buy the number of tubers you require, which means you can grow more varieties. Though it is too early plant out in the garden, this is the time to begin the process of Chitting in order to get a head start on the growing season.

We also have our selection of Onion and Shallot sets for planting once the growing conditions start to improve. Varieties available are Sturon, Red Karmen and Stuttgarter in Onions and Red Sun and Golden Gourmet in Shallots.  Don’t forget our great selection of Vegetable and flower Seeds from Kings and we have Organic Veg seed from Johnsons.

With the boom in Grow Your Own last spring I’m sure demand will be brisk this season too, so now is the time to start planning the veg plot to make the best things.

Chritmas Closure

By Paul, 23/12/2020 2:59 pm

We will be closed from 1pm on Christmas Eve until the Monday 4th January 2021.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank all those who have shown us such great support thoughout 2020. It has been a challenging year for everyone and we look forward to 2021 in the hope that it may be somewhat less difficult. Despite all that has happened it is heartening to see so many finding solice in their gardens and therefore wishing to make the most of them. We have seen a number of ‘New’ gardeners coming to the Nursery for the first time and I hope that the gardening bug will continue long after things return to something close to normal.  We have already lots of new plants planned for 2021 as we strive to enhance our range.

Wishing everyone a Happy Christmas and New Year,

Paul & Helen

Devon Grown Christmas Trees 2020

By Paul, 27/11/2020 3:08 pm

We now have our Fresh cut, Devon grown Christmas trees available and it seems that customers are eager to start the festivities early this year. There are both Nordman Fir (non-drop) and Traditional Norway Spruce available as well as potted trees. Sizes available are up to about 10ft tall for both types. As with everything we are operating in a Covid-safe manner to ensure maximum protection of saff and customers (see our opening times page for details). Local delivery of Christmas trees can be arranged, give us a call for details.

To get the best from your tree we recomment cutting about 3cm from the bottom of the trunk and standing the tree overnight in a bucket of clean water. The cooler the space allocated for teh tree the better, so turn down low any adjacent radiators. Use a stand that will also hold some water and keep this topped up with clean water only (take care with regards to electrics).

The Nursery is now open from 9am to 5pm Monday to Saturday and Sundays 10am to 4pm.

We are Open – Visiting during Lockdown 2

By Paul, 05/11/2020 10:20 am

We are pleased that the government has placed Garden Centres into the essential retail category this time round and therefore we can remain open. All our exsisting, stringent Covid safety precautions remain in place and we continue to monitor the advice to provide as safe a visit as possible. With this in mind I would remind everyone that hand washing facilities are provided at the entrance and these are expected to be used before entering and leaving the site. Additional sanitiser is on hand too. Social distancing with a minimum of 2 metres between other customers and staff is to be observed at all times. Face coverings are required at all times in enclosed areas and we encourage there use even in open areas of the site. Although this is a quieter time of year for us there may still become times when we need to restrict the number of people on site at one time. All our trolleys and baskets are sanitised after use and a regular program of surface cleaning of touched surfaces if carried out at regular intervals. No Dogs are allowed on site and children must be kept under control at all times. We are still not taking cash payments and ask that you pay using contactless payments where possible. As before we ask that those in vulnerable categories do not come to the nursery in person but stay safely at home. Please contact us and we will see if we can help those in need with our local contact free delivery service.

Visiting Our Nursery During Covid-19: Update

By Paul, 11/07/2020 2:45 pm

As we are now out of our busiest time we feel able to relax the one person per household rule, however safety guidance and social distancing still applies. We reserve the right to limit the number of people per houshold at busy times. Please leave anyone in the vulnerable category at home, if you need to bring children please make them aware that they need to stay with the family unit and not run about. Dogs are still not allowed on site. We continue to provide sanitiser and hand washing facilities at the entrance and expect everyone to use them on the way in and when leaving the nursery. We are still not accepting cash payments, card only please.  These rules are there for the saftey and comfort of our staff and customers. Our opening hours continue as 10am to 4pm daily. Thank you for your continuing support and patience!
