Seed Potatoes 2020

By Paul, 06/01/2020 7:01 pm

Wow, it’s that time of year again, Seed Potatoes have arrived. As usual we have carefully selected the varieties that should perform well in the South-Wests often challenging conditions.  Within the 15 varieties that we stock you will find a good range of blight and slug resistant varieties. We balance the overall pest and disease resistance with the need to have good flavour and decent yields. We do this by, not only assesing the information available, but listening to our customers and their experiences. We are happy to offer advice on planting and growing your crop so that you may have a positive expereince. All our varieties are sold loose enabling you to buy only what you need, particularly useful if you only have a small plot. You can choose between Earlies, Second Earlies and Main crop varieties but don’t get put off by the termanology as all this means is the length of time from planting to when they are ready to harvest. We can also find you some great choices for different cooking preferences such as Jacket spuds or Salad and New Potatoes. Planting in the ground would start until April (unless you live in a very mild area or are brave enough to risk it) but you can get a headstart by “Chitting” your seed potatoes. They have all they need in the tuber to make this start by placing them in a frost free location out of direct sunlight to allow them to make short shoots ready to plant out once the danger of hard frost has subsided. Growing potatoes can be very rewarding so come along soon and let us help you make the right choice for planting.

Devon Grown Christmas Trees

By Paul, 02/12/2019 11:45 am

It’s that time of year agian and we have our wonderful selection of Christmas Trees available to buy now. As usual we have both Nordman Fir (Non-Drop) and Traditional Norway Spruce in sizes from 3ft up to 10ft. Come in and choose your tree and even if you are not ready for it we can look after it until you are.  All are trees are grown in Devon and are freshly cut just before delivery to us. This makes them the most sustainable choice for a tree this Christmas. For every tree cut a new one, at least, is replanted. We are able to arrange local delivery and we can net trees to make them easier to take away. We also have some potted trees about 3ft tall, which can be planted out after the festive period.  If you need a stand for your tree then we have those too. We are open 7 days a week right though to Christmas Eve.
